Coventry are in talks with the city's rugby club about the possibility of a groundshare at their Butts Park Arena.
There are long-running issues between the owners of the football club and Coventry City Council following several legal clashes over the Ricoh Arena, where the Sky Blues have played their home matches since 2005.
The Sky Bet League One club have long complained they do not have access to the revenue streams needed in order for them to be competitive at the Ricoh Arena.
Coventry reportedly pay around £100,000-a-year in rent at the stadium and recently signed a two-year extension to their lease.
With this in mind, Coventry Rugby Club have been contacted regarding a potential partnership and groundshare, and plans are thought to have been drawn up detailing the expansion of the Butts Park Arena.
The football club said in a statement on their official website: "Coventry City FC can confirm that long dated talks have been held with the Butts Park Arena and Coventry Rugby Club on a future ground-share deal.
"Whilst the club still has two years left on the current deal with the Ricoh Arena, it is important that the club continues to work towards securing its long-term future.
"Coventry City FC are committed to competing at the highest possible level and for the club to continue to progress, it is essential that both matchday and non-matchday revenue potential can be realised.
"The club would like to stress that no decision has been finalised as talks are ongoing, and we aim to keep supporters informed of future developments."
