Alex Neil said he couldn't have asked for more from his Norwich City players

Alex Neil said he couldn't have asked for more from his Norwich City players after the 0-0 draw against Manchester City at Carrow Road.

The result stretches Norwich's winless run to 10 games in the Premier League, but the point takes them level with 17th-place Sunderland in the fight for survival.

Despite having only 34 per cent possession in the game, the Norwich defence stood tall to withstand the pressure, and Neil praised his side's game management in seeing out the clash.

Manuel Pellegrini blamed Manchester City's inability to create space for the draw

He told Sky Sports: "When we get to the end of the season we'll see how significant it is. In terms of effort and endeavour we couldn't have asked for any more.

"In the first half we had some real good play, and in the second we started to fatigue a little bit because we put some much into that first half.

"This season there have been a lot of decisions we have made that have been the making of our own downfall.

Manchester City's Premier League title bid continued to stutter

"But the players managed this one really well, showed their experience right through the match, and it was a lot, lot better in terms of decision-making. It's really pleasing."

If Norwich were to be relegated this season, they would be the first team to drop from the Premier League on four occasions.

Neil's side face fellow strugglers Newcastle and Sunderland at Carrow Road before the end of the season, but the Scot is also hoping to drag others above them into the mix.

"One thing I would say is that the last time Norwich were relegated they were five points above the relegation places with seven games to play," he said.

"If other teams just above us end up going on a poor run and don't win a game, there's no reason why we can't catch them. Certainly at the moment we just want to be above the teams around us.

"The one thing we discussed with the squad is that we've got it in our own hands, with those two rivals in the relegation battle having to come here.

"If we put on a real strong performance and win those two games, it gives us a strong place to go from."

Winger Nathan Redmond went off in the first half and Neil added: "(He) just went over on his ankle. He just rolled it.

"It's a concern for us because he's a key player. We're hoping it's not going to be too bad."
