Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford has joined Norwich on loan until the end of the season.

Bamford was with Crystal Palace earlier this season but cut short his "terrible" loan spell after growing frustrated at a lack of opportunities under Eagles manager Alan Pardew.

The 22-year-old spent last season with Middlesbrough and was voted Championship Player of the Year after scoring 17 league goals in 38 matches.

He joined the Eagles in July and scored a pre-season hat-trick but started only two Capital Cup games and six league appearances from the bench before quitting the Selhurst Park side in December.

The England U21 player, who signed a new three-year contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer, will link up with Norwich ahead of Tuesday's clash with Tottenham.

"I'm really happy to be here, and the sooner I'm able to get involved the better," said Bamford on Norwich's website.

"That's what I want to do personally, but it's also about helping Norwich to get the points required to stay in the league."

Canaries boss Alex Neil, who recently strengthened his front line with the signing of Steven Naismith from Everton, welcomed Bamford's arrival at Carrow Road.

"Patrick is a player who excelled last season and we are pleased to have the opportunity to bring him in," said Neil.

"He's a young forward determined to make his way in the game, and adds competition for us at the top end of the pitch."
