Eddie Howe said Bournemouth deserved nothing in their 2-1 home defeat to Burnley on Wednesday night.
The Cherries boss said the Clarets were the superior side as they executed their game-plan to perfection at the Vitality Stadum.
"We were off it. They strangled us; we never got our passing game going and that's credit to them, that's how they play - and I think they were better than us.
"I don't think they do surprise, they're very good at what they do."
"From our perspective we needed to use the ball better, get more tempo in our game. We were just flat and barely got going."
Howe took some positives after witnessing his side lose on his 40th birthday, noting the impact made by Lewis Cook off the bench, even though the former midfielder could not inspire Bournemouth to a draw.
"Lewis Cook was bright, he did very well, he lifted the group. But we didn't work the goalkeeper, we didn't do well enough around the box."
The defeat comes off the back of two wins and a draw which had lifted the team away from the relegation zone, but they now drop back down to 15th.
"We have to do better, individually we didn't perform, we didn't show our best selves today and that's hugely disappointing.
"It's the first time in a few weeks we've not performed, as we've had a good run of form."
