Burnley manager Sean Dyche was left to reflect on a frustrating afternoon after his side were beaten 3-1 at Everton on Saturday.
The Clarets spurned several chances in a goalless first half at Goodison Park as they looked for their first away win of the season.
And they also had a header cleared off the line later in the game after Sam Vokes' penalty had cancelled out Phil Jagielka's opener in the 49th minute.
"It was frustrating," said Dyche. "Not the performance…as we faced a team on a hot streak at home and delivered a very good performance.
"But the margins are so fine, we went 1-0 down with a couple of lucky bounces, then got a deserved penalty, went straight back and affected the game.
"We had one cleared off the line in the first half, then two one-on-ones, and sometimes you need that little bit of luck. They had it with the second goal, we gave the ball away cheaply but the shot takes two deflections.
"That's frustrating and then the last goal you have a striker [Romelu Lukaku] who is really hot. We did well on him but he is a top striker and turns well and finishes."
The defeat means Burnley remain eight points above the relegation zone with five matches left to play this season.
Another win should be enough to see them safe, and Dyche said: "It's frustrating when you perform like you did today because you want to grip this situation.
"It's not easy, especially coming here, but I was really pleased with the mentality and the performance and the way we played. That bodes well."
