Former Newcastle defender Steven Taylor is in talks with Ipswich Town.

The 30-year-old left St James' Park last summer to sign for Portland Timbers.

The centre-back is now a free agent, however, after his MLS contract was cut short last month by mutual consent after nine appearances.

London-born Taylor joined Newcastle's youth set-up in 1995 and spent over 20 years at the club.

After a brief loan at Wycombe, Taylor made his senior Newcastle debut in 2004 and went on to make over 200 appearances for the Magpies despite a string of injury problems.
