Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson bemoaned his side's lack striking options after their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Palace showed further signs of improvement under their new boss and Wilfried Zaha -playing as a makeshift forward - really should have given them the lead minutes before Spurs opened the scoring.

On his first return to Wembley in a competitive capacity since resigning as England head coach, Hodgson insisted his team's performance provided little consolation and acknowledged their lack of a recognised frontman again undermined them.

"We need points really," the 70-year-old said. "I would have settled for playing much worse than we played and having a bit of good fortune where a ball deflects past the goalkeeper, or the referee awards us a penalty which is not a penalty.

"I would settle for that at the moment more than I would settle for people trying to be relatively kind to me and the team by perhaps suggesting that we deserved a bit more than we actually got.

"When we look at the table we're still on four points and we're getting further away from the teams that are just outside of the relegation zone, and our task gets harder with every defeat.
