Sam Allardyce leaves Crystal Palace: Highs and lows of the last 18 months

Sam Allardyce has decided to leave Crystal Palace, just a couple of weeks after guiding the south London club to Premier League safety.

Allardyce told Palace owner Steve Parish of his desire to leave the club during a meeting in central London on Tuesday and has said he has "no ambition to take another job" in football in a statement released by the former England manager.

Here is a look back at the manager's highs and lows over the past 18 months...

Appointed Sunderland boss - October 2015

Allardyce is appointed manager of Sunderland, the former Newcastle and West Ham boss taking over from Dutchman Dick Advocaat, who had kept the club up at the end of the previous season. Sunderland were 19th in the Premier League, with just three points from their first eight games of the season. Allardyce sees Sunderland beat Newcastle 3-0 at the Stadium of Light in his second match in charge.

December 2015

Five successive defeats put Sunderland in the relegation zone with 12 points after 19 matches.

January 2016

Sunderland start the new year with a 3-1 win over struggling Aston Villa, but lose to Arsenal in the FA Cup.

April 2016

Sunderland give their survival chances a boost with a 3-0 win at fellow relegation battlers Norwich, which is followed up by draws against both Arsenal and Stoke.

Sam Allardyce - Sunderland v Everton - Premier League

Sunderland come from behind to beat Chelsea 3-2 at the Stadium of Light, which leaves them a point above 18th-placed Newcastle with a game in hand. Everton are then defeated 3-0 to secure their top-flight status and send the Magpies down. The campaign finishes with a 2-2 draw at Watford to make it six games undefeated.

Following England's exit from the European Championships with defeat against Iceland, the Football Association agrees a compensation deal with Sunderland to appoint Allardyce on a two-year deal after Roy Hodgson's decision to stand down.

Allardyce's England reign gets off to a winning start in a World Cup qualifier away to Slovakia, but only after a goal from Adam Lallana deep into stoppage time. It proves to be his one and only match as England manager as Allardyce resigned following just 67 days in the post as The Daily Telegraph released secretly filmed footage of him making controversial remarks about a variety of subjects, including side work and circumventing FA regulations.

Big Sam joins Palace - December 23, 2016

Following the departure of Alan Pardew, Allardyce is appointed as the new manager of Crystal Palace on a two-and-a-half-year contract, with the Eagles just a point above the drop zone.

January 2017

Palace win their first match under Allardyce when beating Bolton, one of his former clubs, in the FA Cup. A first Premier League victory follows at Bournemouth on January 31.

February 2017

Bottom club Sunderland romp to a 4-0 win at Selhurst Park which sees them move level on 19 points with Palace.

April 2017

The resurgent Eagles make it four wins in a row after they beat title leaders Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to sit 16th and four points clear of the bottom three. After defeat at Southampton, Allardyce's men go on to defeat Arsenal and Liverpool, at Anfield, to move up into 12th place and within touching distance of safety.

May 6, 2017

A 5-0 thumping by Manchester City pushes Palace back towards the danger zone following a run of three straight defeats.
