Cardiff City’s move for Nice midfielder Adrien Tameze has collapsed without agreement.
Tameze is a defensive midfielder who has played for France at youth level but also qualifies to play for Cameroon at full international level.
Cardiff held talks with Nice but have been unable to agree a deal.
The Bluebirds have also run into difficulties with their proposed £20m move for Nantes striker Emiliano Sala.
Manager Neil Warnock returned to Cardiff on Wednesday morning after a trip to Nantes for talks with their sought-after Argentine forward.
Talks are continuing but it is understood an agreement to bring the 28-year-old to South Wales is looking increasingly unlikely.
Cardiff have also enquired about former Tottenham player Clinton N'Jie too, who could be available on loan this month in order to get more regular games, with Burnley and Huddersfield also interested.
Warnock and his backroom team are believed to have considered almost two thousand players from home and abroad in the last four months as they try to find a right back, defensive midfielder and goal scorer to maintain their Premier League status continues.
