Xherdan Shaqiri is set to hold talks with Stoke over his future after the end of the season.

Shaqiri has scored seven goals and contributed six assists this season for the Potters, who are in serious danger of being relegated from the Premier League.

The ex-Bayern Munich and Inter Milan forward joined Stoke in 2015 and the Switzerland international's contract runs until 2020.

When asked about possibly leaving this summer if Stoke get relegated, the 26-year-old Switzerland international said: "Everybody knows I am a player who wants to play at the highest level - this is pretty normal.

"But I have still two years contract with this club. We have to see first what happens here. I am happy here at the moment, and I have still two years contract. We will sit down after the season.

"For me, I focus now only on these two games (that Stoke have remaining this season) and try to keep this club up with my team. That is the most important thing at the moment."

Asked about his expectations when he joined Stoke, Shaqiri said: "I didn't expect to go into the Champions League or to play to be champion, but at least to see the club going forward.

"That was for me the most important thing when I came here - 'how is Stoke? I want to do more than they are at the moment, every year better, better, better'. But it was not like this.

"When I came the coach (Hughes) said 'I am going to make a team who are going to progress, are going to play maybe for Europe', like maybe Burnley (who are currently seventh) now. But it never happened.

"It's sometimes difficult to accept, but I give everything to my club. I have a long contract I signed here so I try to give my performance every weekend and to help my team-mates to achieve something.

"So I try now to help my team until the end to stay up because it's very important for this club."
