Mark Hughes admits Stoke "almost always" get a low-quality game when visiting West Brom following their 1-1 draw on Super Sunday.
Peter Crouch's goal cancelled out Jay Rodriguez's opener at the Hawthorns in what was a game lacking in clear-cut opportunities.
Hughes, who has in the past had a frosty relationship with West Brom manager Tony Pulis, also said the conditions at the Hawthorns didn't help the quality of the game.
Hughes told Sky Sports: "We've gone behind in the game against the run of play, and showed good character to come back.
"Really we were the team that were pushing towards the end. It wasn't a high-quality game, I have to say, I didn't particularly enjoy it, but sometimes, well almost always, that's what you get when you come here.
"It's difficult, you've got to deal with it, you've got to be vigilant and able to cope with it for the 90 minutes. We made one mistake in the backline. I was pleased we were able to come back, a good mentality to come back into the game.
"Maybe the conditions took the edge off both sides if I'm honest. Warm day, long grass, no water on the pitch, all those things that you face when you come here. In the end we'll take a point, a good away point."
With deadline day on Thursday, Hughes is still looking to add to his squad, but admits the quality is still there for all to see.
"I'll get an update after today, we'll see where we are, but we hope for it, I think the group could do with one or two, just to add to the quality we undoubtedly have already.
"We'll wait and see, everybody will do quite a lot of business towards the end, and it gets quite frenetic towards the end so we'll see if we're involved in this."
