Southampton ended their 4-1 defeat to Tottenham with 10 men, but it could easily have been nine after Jose Fonte's reckless tackle.
It was ultimately a disappointing night for Southampton, who took the lead through Virgil van Dijk after just 69 seconds.
However, Dele Alli soon responded with a header of his own before Harry Kane put Spurs in front after the break.
Fonte's frustration was clear when he lunged in on Danny Rose with the score at 2-1. The Tottenham full-back charged down the left and the Saints skipper left the ground and flew through the air to make a clean tackle on the Spurs man.
It could have been Southampton's second red of the night, with Nathan Redmond sent off for pulling back Alli when he was through on goal - though Kane went on to sky his penalty over.
Late goals from Heung-Min Son and Alli sealed the victory for Spurs, who keep pace with the top four after claiming their first away victory since September.
