Sadio Mane was dropped for Southampton’s match with Norwich on Saturday for being late.
The Senegal winger was due to start at Carrow Road but was dropped to the bench by manager Ronald Koeman.
Saints went on to lose the game 1-0.
"It's a disciplinary reason," said the Dutch manager on Southampton's Twitter account. "He was in the team, but he was too late in the meeting. We have rules in the team."
The 23-year-old was previously axed from Southampton's match-day squad when he arrived late for his side's Premier League clash with Liverpool last February.
Mane, who arrived from Red Bull Salzburg for £11.8m in September 2014, has been an ever-present figure in Saints starting XI this season, playing in all 19 Premier League matches and scoring three goals.
He was linked with a move to Manchester United last summer after scoring 10 goals in 32 matches in his first season on the south coast.
Koeman has repeatedly insisted Mane is not for sale but Saturday's omission from the starting line-up is likely to fuel speculation over the player.
