Ronald Koeman says Premier League clubs must show more patience with managers, after Tim Sherwood was sacked by Aston Villa.
Kevin MacDonald will lead Aston Villa into the Capital One Cup tie against Koeman's Southampton as the search continues for a successor to Sherwood, who was sacked at the weekend following a sixth straight Premier League defeat.
Sherwood is one of three Premier League managers to lose his job already this season, and Koeman believes clubs should show more patience.
"Too many clubs are changing the manager too fast," the Saints boss said at his pre-match press conference.
"Most of the time to change the manager is not better for the team or better for the club. Sometimes, yes, but...
"It's always disappointing because all the managers know it's a difficult job with a lot of pressure, and sometimes you need understanding and support.
"To make these kind of decisions after 10 games is, in my opinion, too fast."
Koeman has won 21 of his 48 league matches as Southampton boss, and guided the club to 7th position in his first season in charge during the 2014/15 campaign.
