West Brom endured a nightmare season with a team that finished in the top half last term plummeting out of the Premier League as the division's bottom club. Things appeared to be going in the wrong direction under Tony Pulis and only got worse when he left in November.
The appointment of Alan Pardew was a spectacular failure. He won just one Premier League game in four months with no plan on the pitch and no discipline off it - a stolen taxi on a trip to Spain gaining West Brom unwanted publicity.
Darren Moore did turn things around, picking up the manager of the month award for April, but it was too late to save the Baggies. Their eight-season stay in the top flight is over and a major rebuilding job is now required.
Best day of 2017/18
Moore salvaged some pride with his late rally and there was no day better than the 1-0 win away to Manchester United in April. It was a reminder that these players have qualities and ensured that there was at least a happy memory or two for the supporters to enjoy.
Worst day of 2017/18
There were so many to choose from but the 2-1 home defeat to Burnley that finally saw Alan Pardew sacked was their ninth consecutive defeat in all competitions. If West Brom had picked up just one win from those games they could have taken the fight to the final day.
Managerial review
Obviously it was a poor season until Darren Moore got a tune out of the players, but the players have to take responsibility and they haven't been near the top of their form.
Player of year
Where do you start? I've always been quite impressed with Ahmed Hegazi when I've seen him play, while Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez have put in decent shifts. I can't think of a midfielder who is worth a mention, and through the season it has been Ben Foster who has been their best player because of how busy he's been.
2018/19 prospects
It could be a rebuilding project that takes a few seasons, although the club have experience of bouncing back, but my money would be on them taking a few seasons to get back into the Premier League.
