Darren Moore tight-lipped on West Brom manager role despite backing from players

West Brom interim manager Darren Moore refused to be drawn on whether he may be offered the job on a permanent basis, despite receiving the public backing of some members of the squad.

Former England goalkeeper Ben Foster has offered his support to Moore, who has won away games at Manchester United and Newcastle and drawn his two other games since taking over after Alan Pardew left the club on April 2.

That upturn in fortune - while it may prove to be too late to keep the Baggies in the Premier League - has earned Moore a Manager of the Month nomination for April and helped boost his chances of remaining in charge next season.

"All I'm doing is playing my part in a team of people here. I have got the title of caretaker manager, so I'm up here speaking on behalf of the football club," Moore said ahead of Saturday's home game with Tottenham.

"We continue to keep working and everything else outside will happen anyway. Support from anywhere is excellent but to have it from staff within, it goes to show we continue to work.

"We support each other and value each other to bring our positive characters into work and that is what we have done in recent weeks and that is what we want to continue for the future."

West Brom still have a mathematical chance of staying up, although that is dependent on results elsewhere, but Moore insists they are focused purely on the challenge of trying to beat a Spurs team still chasing points to guarantee their participation in the Premier League next season.

"We are focusing on the next game. We've hit some good form lately and we are looking to continue that," added Moore.

"This is a tough game for us against Spurs. I'm focusing on preparing us for the game.

"Harry Kane is an excellent player, but he also has excellent players around him too. We are going to have to be at our very best to deal with him on Saturday.

"Any team you face in the Premier League pose threats. Collectively as a group we have to come together to work hard to get a result.

"It's the last home game of the season and we want to give a good account of ourselves. We're looking forward to the game."

Albion midfielder Jake Livermore has been in impressive form lately and has been nominated for April's Player of the Month Award.

That has led to suggestions he could earn a place in England's World Cup squad, with Moore keen to acknowledge the positive impact he has had on the team's upturn in fortunes.

"I'm delighted for Jake Livermore. His performances have showed why he has been nominated, he has been absolutely excellent," said Moore.

"His performances have shown the driving spirit for the team and we want to see him continue showing that form until the end of the season.

"Everyone at the club wants to see him go to the World Cup and represent his country and he's right on track with that."
