Tony Pulis believes West Ham's system cancelled out his West Brom side in draw

Tony Pulis believes the systems deployed by West Brom and West Ham in their 0-0 draw at The Hawthorns stifled the game.

Neither side could really create any openings in a dull affair in the West Midlands, with West Ham continuing their improvement after a poor start to the season.

Pedro Obiang almost won the match with one of the goals of the season in the first half, but saw his effort from just inside his own half cannon back off the crossbar.

"It was two sides who cancelled each other out," Pulis told Sky Sports. "We played different systems and it was a difficult game. We had two really good chances in the first half. Obiang has had that wonderful effort, but it was a game of few chances.

"West Ham are a good side and they have come and worked really hard today. Andy Carroll is such a handful.

"We have worked to nullify his threat but on his day he brings something very, very different. He can be a handful for any side.

"We still need to get the full group fit and ready to go. We could have done with Burke and Chadli and people like that in the group today. Jake has looked tired, more mentally, but we missed his energy. We are happy with a point."

Pulis then reserved special praise for Gareth Barry, who equalled Ryan Giggs' Premier League appearance record at The Hawthorns.

"As I have said you admire him from a far, and when you bring him in, he doesn't surprise you with his attitude, application and dedication," Pulis added. "He is an example to every young player. He still has a few years left in him yet."
