Tony Pulis says his side were not at their best against Tottenham

Tony Pulis admitted his West Brom side were not on their game during their 4-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday.

Harry Kane's hat-trick plus a Gareth McAuley own goal ensured it was a disappointing trip to north London for the Baggies.

They conceded twice in each half and rarely threatened Hugo Lloris' goal, leaving Pulis to concede his team were "miles off" the performance required to get a result at White Hart Lane.

Ben Foster put in a superb display against Tottenham and the West Brom 'keeper says they are the best team he's faced this season

"When you come to these grounds against these teams you have to be at your best," he told Sky Sports. "Not just technically but mentally as well and we were short today.

"I’m not going to criticise our players. They have done fantastic so far this year but today we weren’t on it.

"I take no credit away from Tottenham, who are a very good team, our lads weren’t right on that mettle today and you have got to be otherwise you get punished and that’s what happened today.

"As I said, I don’t want to take anything away from Spurs, who were very good, but for us, like I said to the players afterwards, you have to be on it against these teams.

Pulis made a tactical change at the break and then introduced James McClean and Hal Robson-Kanu as West Brom searched for a route back in the match, but Kane grabbed Tottenham's third with 13 minutes to play before sealing it late on.

"In the first half with [Nacer] Chadli, Matt Phillips, [Salomon] Rondon and James Morrison, we had four players there who could get forward but we never got hold of the ball.

"We never gave ourselves a chance to get forward and by changing it around a little bit we were hoping to have more of an opportunity to get into the game.

"As bad as we were, even at 2-0 if we score it’s a different game. The third goal really killed us."
