Tony Pulis has urged Jonny Evans to stay at West Brom amid speculation linking him with a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The Northern Ireland centre-back has been linked with a £15m move to Arsenal in the national press, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger keen to strengthen his defensive options after losing Gabriel and Per Mertesacker to injury.

Evans only joined West Brom from Manchester United last August and started the club's 1-0 opening day victory over Crystal Palace last weekend.

Ahead of his side's home match against Everton on Saturday, Pulis insisted he wanted to keep the 28-year-old, but refused to rule out his potential departure.

"If Arsenal come in for Jonny we will do it between the clubs. I am not going to sit here and talk about doing a deal with anyone," the West Brom head coach said.

"We want him to stay with us because he's outstanding. He was most probably our best player against Palace.

"Thing is with Jonny, I think he could play anywhere. Reads the game so well, never gives ball away, great addition to squad and well respected in the dressing room."

Pulis also expressed his desire to keep forward Saido Berahino at The Hawthorns, with Stoke still keen on signing the former England Under-21 international.

Sky sources understand the Potters made a £20m bid for Berahino in July, while Crystal Palace also submitted an offer worth the same amount before turning their attentions to Liverpool forward Christian Benteke.

Berahino's current deal at West Brom expires at the end of the season and, despite this, Pulis is still hoping to have the 23-year-old at his disposal following the close of the summer transfer window.

"Saido has got 10 days to go and then we will start talking about football again. No-one is more keen than I am for him to stay," he added.

"I thought he played really well with Solomon (Rondon) last week and, as far as I and the board are concerned, unless someone comes in with an unbelievable offer, and we have a replacement, then Saido will be going nowhere."
