Tony Pulis felt Solomon Rondon produced a match-winning performance

West Brom boss Tony Pulis was full of praise for striker Salomon Rondon after he scored the winner against Manchester United on Sunday.

The club-record signing made a slow start to life at The Hawthorns scoring just three goals before Christmas.

But the 26-year-old has hit form recently and netted the only goal of the game as the Baggies earned their first-ever home win over United in the Premier League.

Salomon Rondon's match-winning performance earned West Brom a 1-0 win, and Thierry Henry was full of praise for the striker

"His goal was a smashing finish," Pulis told Sky Sports. "He is a great lad with good ability. It has taken him time to settle in and he has had ups and downs but they love him here because of the work-rate and he is a wonderful kid. It was lovely to see him score and win us the game.

"At the start of the season before all the nonsense with Saido (Berahino) I was looking forward to seeing them together for the season but that has not happened. Since Saido has come back in they have looked really lively together and we look a threat."

The Baggies were helped on their way to victory over United by an early red card to Juan Mata for two quick bookings.

But even though they are now up into 11th in the table on 39 points, 15 points above the relegation zone, Pulis says his side still have work to do to ensure survival.

Patrick Davison is joined by Gareth McAuley to discuss West Brom's 1-0 victory over Manchester United

"Let's get 40 points," he added. "Look at the clubs down there, it's amazing, the club the size of Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle and Norwich, it shows how tough this league is.

"Especially for clubs of our ilk you don't rest, you keep driving on. The most important thing is the next game and getting a performance. It's such a tough league, the results have been off the radar this year."
