Tony Pulis says West Brom deserved win over Newcastle

Tony Pulis says West Brom deserved to beat a "dangerous" Newcastle side 1-0 at the Hawthorns on Monday.
Darren Fletcher's header in the 78th minute secured the win for the Baggies, who remain in 13th but are now six points clear of 18th-placed Newcastle.
Following the game, Pulis says a collective effort was responsible for his side's win - but reserved special praise for striker Victor Anichebe, who was picked ahead of the benched Saido Berahino.
"It's not just the three points - it's a clean sheet and a very good performance from the lads. After the first ten minutes, when they clear two or three off the line, you're thinking 'let's hope it's not one of those days'," Pulis said.
"They were always dangerous on the break, they've got some very good players and have spent a lot of money on their forward line. They kept us on our toes, but I don't think anyone can argue that we didn't deserve to win today.

"When Victor turns up he's a top player," he added. "He's shown that today, he was a handful for them and they just couldn't handle him."
Anichebe and defender Jonas Olsson both picked up injuries in the latter stages of the game, but Pulis expects the duo to be fit for their home clash with Stoke City on January 2.
Meanwhile, the Baggies boss admits it's been a "challenge" at West Brom - who had previously failed to win in the Premier League since the 2-1 victory over Arsenal in November.
"I've been here for 38 games now and we've had 50 points. It's not a bad return, but we're always striving to do better," he said.
"The football club needs changing around in lots of ways - and it's a difficult challenge."
