Derby County are keen on signing Leicester City midfielder Andy King on loan, but Frank Lampard will only sanction the deal once he has signed a new centre-back, Sky Sports News understands.
A defender is reportedly Lampard's priority on Deadline Day, but Derby are limited in how much they are allowed to spend to stay within Financial Fair Play guidelines.
If Derby can get one or two players out to free up funds, or if a deal can be done to limit the wage costs of any incoming defender, Lampard is hopeful of also adding King to his squad.
King is understood to have a number of Championship loan options to choose from.
The 30-year-old has yet to feature for Claude Puel's side this season but has been a key figure in recent years, including Leicester's title-winning campaign in 2015/16.
