St Mirren boss Jack Ross is set to be named as Sunderland's new manager on Thursday, Sky Sports News understands.
St Mirren confirmed on Wednesday they had given Sunderland permission to speak to Ross.
Sky Sports News reported a broad agreement was in place between Sunderland and the Scottish PFA Manager of the Year.
We understand he'll earn £350,000 and has accepted the job after being promised the minimum of a year to turn things round. He's agreed a two-year deal, with the option of a third.
St Mirren are due to receive £50,000 compensation for Ross' services, but are seeking more given the nature of the approach.
Ross had also spoken to Ipswich but it is understood he was impressed with how swift Sunderland went about their work.
The 41-year-old is currently on holiday and will be introduced upon his return. He'll become new owner Stewart Donald's first appointment since purchasing the club.
