David Moyes has confirmed Sunderland have made a bid for Sevilla midfielder Vicente Iborra.

Iborra has won the Europa League with Sevilla for the past three years and came on as a late substitute against Liverpool in the 2016 final in Basel.

The 28-year-old made 47 appearances last term, scoring nine goals, including the winner in a 2-1 La Liga victory against Barcelona last October.

Sunderland fans were left disappointed when a sighting of a potential new signing turned out to be Warwickshire cricketer Varun Chopra.

Sevilla chairman Jose Castro confirmed on Wednesday they had received a bid for Iborra.

"We have an important offer for Iborra," Castro said.

"In this moment, it isn't clear if we will accept it and we will wait to see what happens in next [few] days."
