Birmingham have had a bid in the region of £3.5m rejected for Bristol City centre-back Aden Flint, according to Sky sources.
Championship rivals Norwich City are also understood to interested in the highly-rated 28-year-old, but have not yet tabled a formal offer for the defender.
Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp is in the market for defensive reinforcements with Ryan Shotton, who is attracting interest from Middlesbrough, expected to leave the club before the end of the transfer window.
And they have also agreed a £2m deal to sign Brentford centre-back Harlee Dean from Brentford.
The centre-back has been linked with a host of clubs during the summer with Leeds United, Fulham, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough among teams rumoured to be interested.
Flint, who has scored 29 goals in 200 appearances for City since arriving from Swindon in 2013, may be allowed to leave by head coach Lee Johnson, who signed Villa defender Nathan Baker earlier in the summer.
