Andy Lonergan was left red-faced after dropping a cross right into the path of Brentford’s Neal Maupay, who nods the ball into the empty net

Andy Lonergan and Daniel Bentley both had moments to forget in goal for Leeds United and Brentford at Griffin Park.

With the score at 0-0 in the late Sky Bet Championship kick-off on Saturday, Lonergan was left red-faced midway through the first half as Brentford played host to Leeds.

There was no danger for Leeds when Yoann Barbet whipped in a cross from out on the left touchline, but as the Leeds goalkeeper went up to gather the ball, could not hold onto it despite no Brentford player being near him.

Daniel Bentley follows Andy Lonergan’s lead with an identical mistake to gift Leeds an equalising goal against Brentford.

The ball bounced kindly into the path of Neal Maupay, who gratefully headed the ball into the empty goal with the goalkeeper stricken.

And then, remarkably, Brentford goalkeeper Bentley made a very similar mistake to allow Ezgjan Alioski to score the equaliser for Leeds at the same end in the second half.
