Peter Odemwingie sees red for nasty elbow then tweets to apologise during game

Peter Odemwingie was shown a straight red card for Rotherham after elbowing Leeds' Liam Cooper in the face.

Going up for an aerial challenge, the Nigerian striker caught Cooper on the chin for a deserved red card, and even took to Twitter to apologise to his players and fans while the game was still going on.

"I didn't mean to but caught the player and accept the referee had no choice. Hope the boys get something out of the game. Ups and downs."

After Rotherham lost the game 2-1, Odemwingie tweeted again, saying: "Great effort from the boys. Had the chances to equalise. Proud of them giving us hope for the season. Second half performance was top class."

Rotherham stay bottom of the Sky Bet EFL Championship after the defeat, having won just one game all season.
