Leeds have rejected a transfer request from full-back Charlie Taylor.

The club released a statement to say the 22-year-old had asked to leave but had been told he would not be sold.

"Further to recent speculation regarding Charlie Taylor, the club can confirm that a transfer request from Charlie was received over the weekend," Leeds said.

"Garry Monk and club president Massimo Cellino agreed at the start of the transfer window that Charlie would not be sold and, therefore, the transfer request has been formally rejected.

"The club has every confidence that Charlie will continue to conduct himself properly and play his part this season as the club pushes towards the top of the Championship."

Taylor was Leeds' player of the year last season but has just a year left on his deal.

An academy graduate, Taylor has seen peers Sam Byram and Lewis Cook leave for the Premier League over recent months and has been linked with a number of top-flight clubs.

In July, outspoken Leeds owner Cellino promised not to sell Taylor, having earlier claimed he could not get an answer from the player's agent, Colin Pomford, about a proposed new deal.
