Callum Harriott scored twice as Charlton kept their slim Sky Bet Championship survival hopes alive with a 2-1 away win at Brentford on Saturday afternoon.
A goal in each half from Harriott - the opener after just 19 seconds - earned the Addicks their first win in six games but they remain seven points adrift of safety.
Brentford rarely looked like adding to centre-back Yoann Barbet's debut goal as Dean Smith's side were booed off at the final whistle by a hostile Griffin Park crowd.
The day started badly for the Bees when Morgan Fox skipped down the left flank almost from the kick-off, with his cross half cleared by Harlee Dean that saw the ball fell kindly for Harriott to coolly side foot home from 12 yards.
Marco Djuricin squandered a clear chance to level minutes later when he was thwarted by Charlton keeper Nick Pope who beat him in a one-on-one.
Charlton made it two wins in 19 games by defending stoutly and drawing their hosts into a physical battle, which Brentford never looked like winning.
Brentford's only real attacking threat came from Alan Judge, who stung Pope's fingertips with a dipping drive midway through the first half.
His side's possession eventually paid off on 22 minutes when the Irishman's corner found Barbet at the far post and he made no mistake, heading home from close range.
Arsenal loanee Yaya Sanogo glanced a whipped Harriott cross past the far post just before the break as Charlton served notice that they were not just coming for a point.
Minutes after the restart, Sergi Canos was played in by a delightful Josh McEachran through ball, but the Liverpool loanee dragged his shot wide.
Brentford have now lost five of their last six games and it showed against a resolute Addicks defence who relished the physical battles across the park.
And they got their reward in the 69th minute when David Button dropped a speculative cross and it fell for Harriott who slammed home past the two Bees defenders on the line.
The Addicks could have stretched their lead in the dying minutes as Brentford pushed forward looking for the equaliser, with Sanogo a constant threat.
But Charlton saw out the clash against a toothless Brentford, who failed to create a single clear chance after the break.
