Lee Johnson hailed the impact of Jonathan Kodjia after his double helped Bristol City to a 2-0 win against relegation rivals MK Dons on Saturday afternoon.

The Frenchman's opening goal came in first-half injury time as he tapped home his 11th of the season from close range following David Martin's poor goal kick, and wrapped up the victory with a cool finish on the hour mark.

It gave the Robins a third straight win as they moved eight points clear of the relegation places - much to the delight of manager Johnson who was appointed two weeks ago.

"Kodjia is a good finisher and I've seen that in training, he's done great and I was really pleased with him, not just for the goals but for his tactical play for the rest of the team," Johnson said.

"I think the solidarity and the team shape was the most pleasing thing for me today. We were dangerous throughout and we have a lot of attacking players who can cause teams a lot of problems.

"The players restricted a good MK Dons side from creating any chances and I don't think we can ask for any more really.

"We broke from positions of strength, but if I had one criticism for my players today it would be that we could have played a bit more football at times and then cause MK a few more problems.

"My players didn't have to give up a lot of energy and I really don't think I can ask for any more from them given that it is so early on in my tenure at the club."

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson bemoaned his side's display, but he was prepared to take the blame.

"We were unrecognisable in many areas of the pitch and I have to take responsibility for that," Robinson said.

"The blame for today rests on my shoulders because my players have been outstanding this season.

"But let's be honest, I thought Bristol were just as bad as us in the first half and I think that's probably one of the worst first halves of football I've seen all season.

"Everybody had an off day today, but they've worked hard all week and for whatever reason the first touch wasn't right and nothing went right today. It was just too many of them today had an off day and I have to take responsibly for that.

"We set up to try and dominate possession of the ball but we may just be becoming too predictable and teams can start to learn how to play against you and it becomes difficult.

"The mentality has to improve and we have to get better, it's as simple as that."
