Watford could welcome back Christian Kabasele and Craig Cathcart for trip to Huddersfield

Watford boss Javi Gracia hopes the imminent return from injury of Christian Kabasele and Craig Cathcart could help his team find the extra edge needed to mathematically secure their Premier League status.

A 2-1 loss at home to Burnley last weekend left the Hornets without a win in four matches, and they are stuck on 37 points.

They travel to relegation-battlers Huddersfield on Saturday and Gracia revealed that defender Kabasele, who has not played since January 31, could be in contention after a hamstring problem.

Northern Ireland centre-back Cathcart, fit again after being sidelined by a hip injury, was an unused substitute against Burnley and is also in the thoughts of the Watford manager.

"Both are in full training so then I have to make a decision and see if it's the best moment for them to play, what the team needs in this moment, and I'll try to balance that and make a good decision," Gracia said.

Younes Kaboul has now resumed training with the first team, while forward Gerard Deulofeu is stepping up his rehabilitation from a stress fracture in his foot.

Nathaniel Chalobah is also making slow but steady progress after a knee injury, while it remains to be seen whether fellow midfielder Tom Cleverley will shrug off a thigh problem to be involved again this season.

"In this moment I can't tell you if it will be possible to see him again this season," Gracia said in a video on the club's official website.

"Chalobah and Deulofeu are not training with the team but are improving day-by-day and Cleverley is another situation. He is behind them.

"He is working out of the team, but not at the same level as Chalobah and Gerard."

Gracia, though, feels it is a much more positive outlook then when he took on the job at the end of January.

"There were a lot of injured players when I arrived and now I have more options to choose from," he said.

"I think it's the best news for the team because every player competes to play in the next game."
