Crystal Palace 1-0 Watford: Walter Mazzarri insists Hornets league position not of concern

Walter Mazzarri insisted Watford's league position is not of great concern after the Hornets slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.

The defeat, which came about after an own goal from skipper Troy Deeney, was Watford's third in four league games.

Despite such a run, the Hornets are still seven points clear of the relegation zone, and Mazzarri insisted that cushion means he will not worry too much just yet.

"I am not too concerned about the table," Mazzarri told Sky Sports. "At the moment we are not in too dangerous a position, but I am just disappointed we managed to throw away a point. We should have four or five more points this season."

Mazzarri complained Palace's goal should not have stood, because he felt Luka Milivojevic had fouled M'Baye Niang in the build-up to the free-kick from which the hosts scored, but he defended Deeney's game-changing contribution.

"We were not lucky at all," Mazzarri added. "There was a foul on Niang just before the goal, which means that we were with 10 men when they scored. It was also at the moment when we were doing our best.

"In my opinion the game should have ended 0-0.

"We defended very well. The only chance they had was our own goal. At that moment we also had 10 men, so had one less man in the area.

"It's an own goal; this can happen. He shouldn't apologise for this. I don't think he's happy, but it was an unlucky day: he ran and gave everything for the team so he shouldn't apologise, it was unlucky."
