Walter Mazzarri feels Watford's win over Leicester was the perfect response to their thrashing at Liverpool and shows the result at Anfield was a mere blip.

Goals from Etienne Capoue and Roberto Pereyra saw the hosts beat the Premier League champions 2-1 at Vicarage Road.

Having lost 6-1 last time out, Mazzarri's players have now won three of their last five games and sit eighth in the table as they gather momentum under the Italian.

"I'm very happy. The team played as I wanted and they gave me the answers I wanted so I am satisfied with this win," Mazzarri said.

"We prepared very well for the game today, not only technically but also tactically. Everyone played as I wanted.

"Today we proved the game against Liverpool was an error that can happen to any team. It was very important to give the answer we all wanted and we got that. We wanted to attack immediately. We did the same against Hull City, but unfortunately against them we couldn't score.

"This is our idea, we want to always attack from the beginning. I'm happy for the victory in general. It doesn't matter that they were the champions of England.

"Mainly I'm happy with the performance because the team played as I like, as I always want them to play, especially after the big defeat against Liverpool."

The result saw Mazzarri continue his remarkable run of results against Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri, which has now seen him go undefeated in 12 meetings.

The pair had previously come together in charge of clubs in their native Italy but the Watford coach did not want to dwell on his good record.

"Let's not say too much because it brings bad luck but yes, today we have to take into consideration it was Watford against Leicester," Mazzarri said.

"It was not the two managers against each other so I am happy it went this way but it is the players and the team who go on the pitch."
