Watford head coach Walter Mazzarri has played down the on field argument between Etienne Capoue and Jose Holebas.

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has told "good friends" Jose Holebas and Etienne Capoue to keep on arguing to get the best out of each other.

Holebas fired a smart winner in Sunday's 1-0 Premier League victory at Middlesbrough, then spent several minutes bickering with Capoue at full-time.

Hornets manager Mazzari remains relaxed about that Riverside Stadium row, insisting his players will only hit their peaks by continuing to question themselves and each other.

"Even in training they usually play on the same side, so they are always both talking to each other and trying to improve each other," said Mazzari.

"They are always telling them what position they should be playing, go further forward, go further left, go further back.

"They are always talking to each other, they are very good friends.

"And I am actually very happy about this, because for me the fact that they talk a lot on the pitch and in training shows that they want to improve their football."

The £12.5m summer recruit from Granada battled through the issue against Middlesbrough but has not trained since.

Mazzari will make a decision on the 20-year-old after training on Friday, with Odion Ighalo waiting in the wings for a recall.

"He hasn't been training regularly because of his muscle problems," said Mazzari. "He has been having problems in the upper side of the right leg.

"We need to check on him because he hasn't trained with the team so far this week. So he's in doubt for the game, he might not be available.

"I substituted him (at Middlesbrough) because the physio said during the game he was already hurting. So I tried to keep him on as long as possible during the game.

"But after the 90 minutes when we were back in the dressing room I had a look at him and they confirmed that he could not train for the next couple of days because of a muscular problem.

"So now we will see."
