Quique Sanchez Flores was delighted with how Watford responded against Newcastle after recent back-to-back losses in the league

Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores rested four players - including Odion Ighalo, scorer of 14 goals this term - ahead of his side's FA Cup third-round clash with Newcastle United on Saturday, but the Hornets still won the tie 1-0 at Vicarage Road.

And, despite being on the back foot for large periods of the game, the Spaniard was delighted with his team's progression to the fourth round, secured thanks to captain Troy Deeney's 44th-minute strike.

"I am really happy because it is my first taste of the FA Cup and for us it is important to win every single match we play, and this was the first one, so it was perfect," he said after the game.

"It was very difficult to stop Newcastle's attacks in the first half. They played really well and really quick, switching the ball really well, so it was difficult to stop. But [Heurelho] Gomes did really well with three or four saves and I was very happy.
