West Ham are still in talks with Celta Vigo over the signing of Maxi Gomez, Sky Sports News understands.
Celta Vigo are unwilling to sell the 22-year-old in the January window unless the player's £43.3m release clause is met.
The Hammers held talks with the Spanish side over Gomez in the summer, but felt Celta Vigo were demanding too much money for the striker.
Sky Sports News understands that West Ham want to go forward with the transfer now regardless of whether Marko Arnautovic remains with the club.
Celta Vigo's sporting director Felipe Minambres recently commented: "I believe that we will retain our most important players because it is the intention of the club to be strong, but with the English you never know".
A potential deal for Gomez would see West Ham break their transfer record which was set by Felipe Anderson's £35m summer switch from Lazio.
Gomez has scored nine goals in La Liga so far this season.
