West Ham have not given up on signing Joao Mario from Inter Milan, according to Sky sources.
The Portugal midfielder had told his advisers he was reluctant to make the move, but he is now "more open-minded" about the idea of moving to London.
Inter will let him leave on loan with an option to buy.
Mario is not playing regularly for Inter and they are keen to raise funds by selling a player they signed for £40m in the summer of 2016.
He was a key member of the Portugal team which won the European Championships in France in 2016.
The 24-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Serie A side this season. Inter are currently third in the Italian top-flight standings.
