Diego Poyet has returned to West Ham early following a loan spell with MK Dons.
Poyet moved to Stadium MK on a season-long loan in August and has made 20 appearances for the Championship side.
Despite starting 17 of his 18 Championship appearances during the first half of the campaign it has been decided to end the loan ahead of schedule following just 1 start in the last six games.
Karl Robinson admits chances will be few and far between in the second half of the season and the midfielder would be better off returning to East London.
"We had a great conversation last week. It didn't really work with him playing alongside Darren Potter. They are both top players - everyone knows how important Darren is to us," said Robinson.
"I love developing young players and it's not fair on him as a young player, not getting as many minutes as he would like.
"He's got every opportunity to be a Premier League player but he needs games and I'm never going to stand in the way of a young player doing that."
Poyet, via his Twitter account, added: "Thank you to everyone at MK for my loan, I thoroughly enjoyed it and wish the club all the best for the rest of the season."
