Middlesbrough have made an enquiry to Stoke about signing Bojan Krkic, according to Sky sources.
It is understood the Potters value the Spanish forward, who has become unsettled at the Bet365 Stadium, at around £12m.
West Brom, Las Palmas and Valencia have all made enquiries of their own during the first 13 days of the January transfer window and Bojan is also of interest to Boro boss Aitor Karanka.
Stoke boss Mark Hughes recently assured Bojan of more game time after a meeting with his representatives, but Karanka has already spoken in glowing terms of the 26-year-old this month.
He said: "I know Bojan, because he was in the (Spain) national team. He is a good player, he has played in AC Milan, Barcelona, Ajax, Rome, Stoke, so he is a good player."
Hughes said last week that Bojan "is still a big part" of his thinking and that "it's up to him to take those opportunities".
"I said to his advisors, and we had a long conversation, that we have lost three attack-minded players to the African Nations Cup," he said ahead of Stoke's FA Cup third-round defeat to Wolves.
