Middlesbrough kicked off pre-season with a resounding 6-0 victory against York City on Saturday.
Aitor Karanka's side, who will play Premier League football for the first time since 2009 next month, used a different XI in each half, but still came away with a convincing victory over the National League side.
New signing Victor Valdes did not play, but Boro took the lead on 19 minutes through a Scott Flinders own goal, the ball hitting the goalkeeper after Carlos de Pena had struck the upright.
David Nugent made it 2-0 after linking up well with Alex Pattison inside the York half, before Albert Adomah added a third goal from close range.
Half-time substitute Jordan Rhodes made it 4-0 with a fine turn after 64 minutes, and it was five with 15 minutes remaining through Adam Reach's superb lobbed first-time finish.
Boro squeezed in a sixth late on through Rhodes, finishing neatly from close range after Reach's cross.
Boro face Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday in their next pre-season friendly.
