Manchester City's experience of winning the Premier League title is now "irrelevant" with only two games left to play, says Stuart Pearce.

Manchester City host Leicester at the Etihad on Monday Night Football, live on Sky Sports Premier League, where a win would take them a point clear of Liverpool at the top of the table going into Sunday's final round of fixtures.

Pep Guardiola's City side have the advantage of having won the Premier League last season, an experience which should help them deal with the pressures of another run-in.

However, former City manager Pearce believes that at this late stage in the season, experience does not make any difference.

"Where we stand right now, it's totally irrelevant," he told Sky Sports News.

"If you asked me the same question two or three months ago, I may have said potentially that may be a problem.

"Liverpool have proved on a weekly basis that they can match anything City can throw at them this season.

"From Liverpool's point of view, they have one more game at home to Wolverhampton and I can't see them tripping up in that, they will get maximum points.

"The ball is really in City's court to maximise their games."

Liverpool's last-gasp 3-2 win over Newcastle on Saturday put the pressure back on City in the title race, but Pearce believes Guardiola's side will have no problem holding their nerve, despite wanting to see a twist himself.

"Both City and Liverpool look like they are holding their nerve at the moment. It's a real tight run-in and it's been an absolute pleasure to watch," he said.

"I see both of them finishing the season with maximum points, with City just edging it at this stage of the season.

"There might be a twist, let's hope so."
