Pep Guardiola does not know if Arsenal want to hire Mikel Arteta as manager, but says the former midfielder deserves the best.
Arsenal's chief executive Ivan Gazidis - the man who will ultimately recommend a new head coach to owner Stan Kroenke - believes Mikel Arteta could be the man to replace Arsene Wenger, Sky Sports News understands.
Arteta, a former Arsenal club captain, has a growing reputation after working alongside Guardiola in City's title-winning season.
"My opinion about Mikel is overwhelming," said Guardiola. "He deserves the best.
"We are so comfortable working with him. Part of the reason for our success this season was because Mikel is here.
"I know there are a lot of names for the next position at Arsenal but I don't know what their plans are.
"Mikel deserves all that he wants."
Another name linked to the Arsenal job is former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique. Wenger himself revealed his admiration for Luis Enrique and Guardiola echoed the sentiment of his old team-mate.
"He is an excellent manager," Guardiola said. "He can go wherever he wants and of course Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world."
