Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has been ruled out for up to six weeks - and will miss the Carabao Cup final - after suffering ankle ligament damage in Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round win over Cardiff.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday's game against West Brom, Pep Guardiola said: "He's injured. It will be six, seven weeks out."
Sane, 22, was substituted at half-time following a challenge from Cardiff player Joe Bennett with scans on Monday morning confirming the winger has suffered ankle ligament damage.
The Germany international is expected to miss the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal on February 25, as well as both legs of City's Champions League last-16 tie against Basel on February 13 and March 7.
A six-week absence would also rule Sane out of City's Premier League fixtures against West Brom, Burnley, Leicester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Guardiola had called for referees to do more to protect players from bad challenges after City's win at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, while Neil Warnock defended his players, saying it was "part and parcel of the game."
Guardiola responded to Warnock's comments, saying: "He has more experience than me about English football, if he says that what can I say?
"I've been here 18 months and I don't think football is like this. That's my personal view."
