Pep Guardiola said Sergio Aguero will not play in Manchester City's match at Chelsea on Saturday

Pep Guardiola fears Sergio Aguero has broken a rib after the Manchester City striker was involved in a car accident in Amsterdam.

The accident happened as Aguero was making his way back to the airport, to catch a flight to Manchester after a day off.

Guardiola confirmed the 29-year-old would miss City's match Premier League match at Chelsea on Saturday and said: "He [Aguero] is still in Amsterdam and he is coming back this afternoon. I am not a doctor and I don't know exactly what he has.

"It was an accident and he will recover as soon as possible.

"It is not a problem for me [that he was in Amsterdam]. He was on a day off. I have not spoken to him. He is okay that is the main thing.

"The first impression we have is that he has a broken rib but we do not know for sure."

Guardiola admitted he had no problem with Aguero spending a day off abroad, saying: "A day off is to be happy.

A Spanish sports newspaper AS quoted Aguero telling Argentinian station Radio Metro: "The taxi driver did not see the curve and skid. And when he skidded, we hit the pole.

"I broke my rib, now I'm resting. It hurts me badly. I'll be discharged in a little while."

The news on Aguero caps a bad week for injuries at City with Benjamin Mendy expected to be out for six months with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
