Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he thinks prolific forward Sergio Aguero is poised to sign a contract extension.
The 28-year-old Argentina international has spoken before about possibly re-joining his first club Independiente when the five-year City contract he signed in 2014 expires.
However, reports have emerged suggesting Aguero will extend his deal by a year and remain with City until at least 2020.
And Guardiola said at his Friday press conference: "I don't know if I am the right person to talk about that but I think he is going to extend the contract.
"It is not official. I don't know if it is definitely going to happen but, if he stays, I will be so, so happy."
Widely considered one of the Premier League's top performers, Aguero has scored 145 goals in 213 appearances since signing for City from Atletico Madrid.
His dramatic late goal against QPR in 2012 secured the first of two Premier League titles City have won since his arrival and he bagged his second hat-trick of the current season during Wednesday's 4-0 Champions League win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
However, Aguero will have to sit out Saturday's Premier League game at home to Bournemouth as he serves the second game of a three-match domestic suspension.
Spanish playmaker David Silva missed the Monchengladbach game due to injury and Guardiola does not think he will be fit in time to face Bournemouth.
"I don't think tomorrow will be enough," said the City boss.
"I don't think it's a big, big problem but it happened two days ago, so I don't think he'll be able to play."
City new boy Ilkay Gundogan deputised for Silva in midweek but Guardiola is unsure whether the German is ready for two games in a week, while defender Vincent Kompany definitely remains out.
"I'm thinking about it (playing Gundogan again) - I don't know," said Guardiola. "He played well but we cannot forget he comes from a long-term injury.
"We'll see, we'll talk to the doctors. Vincent is close but not yet. We need him. There's a lot of games to come - we need everybody."
