Former Manchester United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez believes England stopper Joe Hart needs to work on flaws in his game.
But the World Cup winner reckons that Hart's are indicative of a deeper problem with English 'keepers.
The 29-year-old made two major mistakes at Euro 2016, allowing a Gareth Bale free-kick from 35 yards to slip over the line and then conceded a soft effort from Kolbeinn Sigthorsson in Iceland's 2-1 victory over England in the second round of the competition.
Hart's errors have put the keeper's starting position for both Manchester City and England in doubt, and Barthez believes he is some way behind the likes of Belgium's Thibaut Courtois, Hugo Lloris of France and Germany 'keeper Manuel Neuer.
"His diving technique isn't good. It's too horizontal and not aggressive enough," Barthez said in France Football.
"He isn't flexible and doesn't come out. When he runs, it's just 'thud, thud, thud.'
"He messes up because he doesn't attack the ball's path, meaning his hands are then pushed back by the impact with the ball. Hart is two levels below Neuer, Courtois and Lloris.
"It's heavy. I don't understand the English culture around the position. They need huge guys, but they're just walls that don't come out.
"Clubs and the FA need to change their philosophy in developing goalkeepers."
