Man City were "nowhere near good enough" as they were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Wednesday, according to former City player Kit Symons.
Fernando's own goal at the Bernabeu secured a 1-0 aggregate victory for Real, setting up an all-Spanish final against Atletico Madrid in Milan.
A score draw would have been enough to see City progress after a goalless first-leg at the Etihad, but Manuel Pellegrini's side managed just one shot on target as they exited the competition.
"They went with a 0-0 and were still in with a chance, but on the night they were nowhere near good enough," Symons told Sky Sports News HQ.
"Real Madrid were by far and away the better team and I think even the most die-hard Man City fan would agree with that."
City knocked out Dynamo Kiev and Paris Saint-Germain on their way to the semi-finals for the first time in the club's history, and Symons said City can be proud of the progress made under outgoing boss Pellegrini.
"Manchester City have done really well overall in this tournament to reach this stage of the competition, and that's progress and great for the club," he added.
"But the way they went out over the two legs will be a little bit disappointing for City fans. In the first leg, Cristiano Ronaldo wasn't playing and Karim Benzema wasn't fully fit, and they had a great opportunity to take something to the Bernabeu to hold."
