Manuel Pellegrini admitted he was frustrated that Manchester City were unable to find a breakthrough away to Aston Villa on Sunday, but refused to point the finger.
The game ended 0-0 as Villa secured a point in Remi Garde's first game in charge to end a run of eight straight defeats.
Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling missed the best of the chances and Fernando hit the bar in the closing stages.
De Bruyne's effort was a miscued backheel from just a couple of yards out but Pellegrini said he would not chastise the Belgian for his elaborate failed attempt.
"Those are the decisions the players have in one second and he decides it's the way to finish," Pellegrini said.
"It is difficult to tell him he has to do it another way. I don't have anything to complain to our team (about). They played very well.
"Of course, it was a frustrating game because we did everything to win the game.
"We tried to score, we couldn't. They didn't shoot once in the whole game at our goalkeeper but these things happen in football and we were unlucky in the three or four options that we had.
"We didn't score but I was happy in the way that we played, especially in the second half.
"Very good pressing, good movements and unfortunate we were just very unlucky not to score."
