Soccer Special pundit Niall Quinn said Manchester City were far from their best against Sevilla - but admitted Yaya Toure was excellent.

Manchester City had Yaya Toure to thank for the vital 2-1 Champions League Group D win over Sevilla, says Niall Quinn.

City were fortunate to grab all three points in stoppage time thanks to Kevin De Bruyne's fine finish, having been under pressure for much of the clash at the Etihad.

Toure had a big part to play in both City goals, and Quinn said the Ivorian midfielder showed why he is still an attacking force for City, but admitted he could not believe how City came away with a win.

"[Sevilla] will be kicking themselves, they were excellent and actually didn't do anything wrong during the game," Quinn said on Soccer Special.

"There were players who didn't play well for City tonight, all over the park there were players who didn't gel, in couples, in threes. Sevilla completely dominated.

"But Yaya was excellent on the ball for Manchester City, the rest of them struggled, it was a nervy night and the fans didn't get going at all. How they've [won] is beyond me.

"Where Manchester City find themselves in the Champions League at this time, Yaya Toure can hurt teams.

"When he plays as cover for the defence you lose so much of what can happen at the other end.

"It was like watching a big, strong kid in the playground, running through players. He can't be as effective playing 40 yards out playing the ball out to the right-back or the left-back."

Despite scoring two goals on Saturday in the 5-1 win over Bournemouth, Wilfried Bony had a night to forget for City, and was substituted near the final whistle for midfielder Fernando.

Quinn said: "It didn't happen at all for Bony. There was another incident when he turned his back on play after some good work from Sterling.

"The crowd got up, and you could hear some booing, and then he was taken off for a midfielder.

"It's difficult without Aguero, difficult without Silva, but thankfully Toure was there to offer some resemblance of a robust Manchester City attacking unit. There's lot to improve on for City."
