Newcastle are in talks with Benfica over a loan move for midfielder Andreas Samaris, Sky Sports News understands.

Manager Rafa Benitez has previously tried to sign the 29-year-old, who has been capped 33 times by Greece.

Samaris, who played against Manchester United in the Champions League last season, has featured only four times for Benfica this campaign.

Benitez is also keen to sign a left-back before Thursday's deadline after his move for Lazio's Jordan Lukaku fell through on medical grounds last Friday.
